Have you ever wondered at the different names of the meals that we take during the day? Most of us may be familiar with Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.  But what about Brunch and Linner/Lupper?  Just glance at the following list, you will come to know a variety of names for the meals. Generally, the names for these types of meals depend on the time and size of the meal.

1 Breakfast The first meal eaten in the morning, usually before 10.00 am.
2 Brunch A meal eaten late in the morning, with a combination of breakfast and lunch.
3 Elevenses A light snack with tea or coffee taken in the mid morning after breakfast and before lunch.
4 Lunch or Luncheon A second meal eaten at the middle of the day after breakfast.
5 Afternoon tea A light meal eaten usually at 4 pm and it contains tea, sandwiches, and cakes.
6 High tea A British meal, usually eaten in the early evening. It may consist of a hot dish, followed by cakes and bread, butter and jam.
7 Snack A light meal or food eaten between regular meals. It is quick to cook and to eat.
8 Linner/Lupper A meal eaten late afternoon, instead of lunch and dinner. This word is a combination of the words “lunch” and “dinner” or “Supper”.
9 Supper A light meal eaten in the evening usually around 7 pm.
10 Dinner Generally, it is considered an evening meal around 6 pm-9 pm.

But dinner means the main meal of the day, which can replace either lunch or supper.

1 Beanfeast An annual meal given to employees by employers.
2 Banquet A sumptuous feast or a lavish meal arranged in recognition of some occasion or achievement.
3 Barbecue A meal at which meat, fish, or other food is cooked out of doors on a rack over an open fire.
4 Buffet A meal consisting of several dishes from which guests serve themselves.
5 Feast A large and sumptuous meal, typically a celebratory one.
6 Nosh-up A big, enjoyable meal (informal in British)
7 Picnic Any informal meal eaten outside, usually in a field or a forest, or at the beach.
8 Tiffin A light midday meal. Packed lunch for those working in offices or going to school.
9 Square meal A substantial, satisfying, and balanced meal
10 Smorgasbord A meal with a variety of hot and cold savoury dishes, from which people serve themselves.
