Since the English language is one that is dynamic and ever-changing, the formation of a new variety of words is encouraged for the comfort of the people using the language. Blending in English is one among many word-formation process categories that are used to build new words from existing ones. The other categories are deviation, compounding, acronyms, coinage, back-formation, conversion, clipping etc.,

 

A blend word or a blend is the combination of two separate words to produce a single new word. Generally blending takes place when we combine the beginning part of one word and the end part of another word. These blend words in the English language are sometimes also called portmanteaus. In the process of blending at least one word should be shortened and that can be done by a simple omission of a part or overlapping sounds or letters.

 

Following are the ways to form the blend words:

 

1. By using the first part of the first word and the last part of the second word:  (also called Portmanteas)
